My New Simple Website IDE – Aptana

Monday, March 31st, 2008

AptanaThis thing is badass fo sho.  It is built on Eclipse, but nicely packaged with some useful extras meant for HTML/PHP/JS/CSS development. It has syntax highlighting, auto-complete, plenty of code assistance, outline view (standard eclipse stuff), but then for those of us still using FTP for sites, it has a pretty decent built in FTP client that gets the job done.  You might have to supplement with a standard FTP client as well, because unfortunately, everytime I create a new file on my host I have to chmod from 644 to 755. Damn thing leaves every file without execution access to world. Don’t quite get that, but this software otherwise kicks ass.  Does all you need it to except PHP debugging, but I can live without that for these more straight-forward sites.

As a note, you have add the PHP plug-in to get PHP syntax highlighting and code assistance…

It is still in its early releases, but still is very functional.  I definitely have been a happy camper with it.  Next step for me is to get a dev server and just start using SVN to protect myself a little. In the meantime, check out Aptana:  www.aptana.com

TipjoyBrilliant!  This is a clever little idea.  Micro-payments that people are likely willing to leave.  I would imagine a person is much more likely to leave $0.10 to $0.20, then $1.00 for something they downloaded, a piece of code, or a blog entry.  Or sick little bootleg MP3 track that you plan on playing at the club over the weekend, hypothetically.

Knowing your place in business

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A friend passed on this article and it is my style: lots of analogies.  Helps get the point across for sure, and that point is knowing what your place is in business: employee or boss. As well, understanding peoples roles in business, the effects of a growing business, the employee hierarchy, etc… I will be honest and say that I have not read the whole thing. But it is because it is a few pages long, and I am partially writing this blog post as a public bookmark back to the article.

Cut Copy – In Ghost Colours

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

Cut Copy, definitely one of my favorite bands, released there new album In Ghost Colours in Australia today (technically yesterday as they are currently 17 hours ahead of us).  I am currently downloading it with my favorite P2P app, which I will keep somewhat secretive.  I’ve been playing some tracks off the new album for a couple months now and they definitely give me good hopes about this being an amazing CD.

Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love

There first album is one of my all time favorites and I highly recommend checking it out.  Bright Like Neon Love. It has such a great feeling to it and an amazing sound. It’s one of my spring/summer CDs too, just one of those CDs you put in your car and play while you drive with the windows down and the sun coming through the sun roof. Now would be a good time to get it.

Portishead – Third

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Portishead I am totally freakin excited.  Portishead has come out with a new album, and it will be released in the US in April, but you can get your copy on your flavor of P2P or torrent sites.  I’m downloading it as I write this and I am anxious for it to complete. I hope it is good!

Dummy is definitely one of my all time favorite albums.  It gives me goose bumps just to hear the CD start with Mysterons…  Beth Gibbons has an infectious voice.  As soon as I got my turntables, I started looking for Portishead on Vinyl.  I ordered it for about $35 from some dude in the UK.  It is lovely.

Ajax Loading Gif Generator

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

This is really a useful tool.  It will generate an animated gif spinner / loading animation based on your background.  But even better, it has a bunch of different animations that are all pretty standard, but who wants to save all these spinners… Nice work yo!
